Welcome: I first developed this Teaching Portfolio course in 2002, an effort that grew out of my own teaching and research on reflection as a tool for enhancing student learning. This course was incorporated into the CIRTL @UAB Teaching Certificates program. Since then, there has been a growing emphasis on teaching as a scholarly activity. A teaching portfolio is a powerful tool not only for documenting teaching experiences and enhancing job search potential, but for continued scholarly reflection on teaching.
What is a Teaching Portfolio? A teaching portfolio is more than a collection of syllabi and student ratings. It is the tangible evidence of the intellectual work that goes into designing a course, planning for student learning, dealing with challenges of teaching diverse populations, and improving upon both the processes and products of education.
